SEO News: Google is ignoring nofollow
Posted by Ben Rowland in SEO,
We've recently noticed that some nofollow links are showing up for sites we monitor using Google's Webmaster Central, so I did a quick search: "is google ignoring nofollow?" Evidently, yes, they are ignoring at least some nofollow links.
There's a good article,
Google Changes Course on Nofollow, that I found on the subject.
The nofollow attribute was originally created as a way of identifying untrusted content, but quickly gave rise to huge SEO business. Link directories charging for true not-nofollowed links sprang up overnight. Major sites such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and others purposely set their outbound links to nofollow so as not to pass PageRank.
