According to
research by Alessandro Acquisti (
listen to the story on All Things Considered on NPR), an economist at Carnegie Mellon, web visitors are more likely to "...admit more sensitive, embarrassing and even illegal behaviors to a Web site that's been designed to look kind of cheesy." Evidently, websites with a more formal design and prominent privacy policies cause visitors to pause, leading fewer to give up their private information.
